LinkedIn is a powerful tool to connect with potential clients you might never have the opportunity to meet otherwise. Plus it’s an authentic way to stay top of mind with your existing network and encourage repeat work and referrals.

In the last couple of years, LinkedIn has changed. Scroll through your home feed today and you’ll see it's noisy. Most posts contain images and videos which makes it much more difficult to stand out.

How do you get your potential clients to stop their scroll and engage with your posts? Visual content – images, carousels, videos, and lives – are powerful marketing collateral that can help your content make a greater impact.

In this article, we’ll uncover the secrets to leveraging visual content to stop the scroll and boost engagement so you can attract and nurture more of your ideal clients on LinkedIn.

Lights, Camera, Engagement! How to Connect with LinkedIn Videos

Videos have become the stars of social media, driving at least 5 times more engagement than other content types. Business owners can harness this potential to connect with their target audience and boost engagement on LinkedIn.

To make the most of LinkedIn videos, consider these expert tips:

  • Film vertically. 91% of viewers watch LinkedIn videos on their mobile devices so turn your phone!

  • Use captions. Not only is this important for accessibility, 66% of LinkedIn users consume videos without sound.

  • Keep your videos informal and engaging. Many senior level executives engage with LinkedIn outside of work hours so they are more likely to engage with content that is relaxed in tone.

  • Be succinct! Opt for shorter videos, under 10 minutes or even bite-sized 60-second clips, for higher click-through rates.

  • Get to the point! Grab attention within the first 6 seconds by creating a compelling hook.

  • Structure your videos. The hook, content, and a strong call-to-action (CTA) format works well for video content, just like it does for your written posts.

Here are 5 video content ideas to get you started:

  1. Share insights and tips from industry events or conferences you've attended.

  2. Offer quick video hacks that address common challenges faced by your target audience.

  3. Share thoughts and perspectives that spark curiosity and conversation.

  4. Demonstrate the functionality of tech tools or apps relevant to your industry.

  5. Deliver news updates, inspiring stories, and step-by-step how-tos to establish yourself as an authority.

Stop the Scroll! How to Use Images Effectively on LinkedIn

A picture is worth a thousand words, and on LinkedIn, it's worth even more for engagement.

Business owners can leverage images to create eye-catching content and drive meaningful interactions. To boost engagement with images on LinkedIn, keep these tips in mind:

  • Choose images with a purpose. Images work best on LinkedIn when they perform a function. Testimonials, inspiring quotes, promotions, and branded visuals all work well because they provide value for your readers.

  • Align images with your content. Ensure the image you choose complements the message or theme of your post. Well-aligned visual and written content creates a cohesive narrative that resonates with your audience.

  • Use the recommended image dimensions (1.91:1 aspect ratio, 1200 x 627 pixels). This helps prevent cropping or distortion, ensuring your images are displayed properly.

  • Add text overlays. Concise and legible text on your images highlights key points, captures attention, and makes your message more memorable.

  • Encourage engagement. Interacting with your network is vital for boosting engagement. Pose questions, invite opinions, and encourage conversation in your captions.

Carousels: A Visual Symphony on LinkedIn!

Carousels are reported to result in 3x more clicks than any other content on LinkedIn. They offer a captivating and interactive way to showcase your expertise and engage your audience. In my own content and for that of my clients, I’ve noticed that people engage with them for longer than other posts. They’re a gift that keeps on giving!

At the time of writing, not every LinkedIn user has access to the carousel feature, but even those without can upload them as PDFs (choose the document function from “Create a post”).

The most effective format is the same as it is for written posts. Craft a compelling hook, deliver value in the main section, and end with a clear CTA.

Add a short written post with a different hook (carousel posts offer you the opportunity to have two hooks for the price of one!), outline the problem, repeat the CTA, and add a question and relevant hashtags to maximise engagement.

The Live Streaming Advantage on LinkedIn

Live streaming is a powerful tool to establish real-time connections and drive engagement on LinkedIn. As a woman consultant, you can leverage live streaming to make a lasting impact.

Follow these tips for successful live streaming on LinkedIn:

  • Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria. You need at least 150 followers and have a history of abiding by LinkedIn's rules.

  • In order to go live, activate Creator Mode or create an event.

  • Engage your audience by encouraging discussion and incorporating questions and exercises.

  • Plan to go live for at least 15 minutes to boost engagement.

  • As always, start with a captivating hook and end with a clear CTA.

  • Share lead magnets to make the most of your live collateral.
